Chicago Dog Bite Attorney

Each year, millions of innocent children and adults are seriously injured or even suffer wrongful death as a result of dog bite attacks. If you or a loved one have suffered a dog bite and don’t know what to do, Chicago dog bite attorney Phil Berenz is here to help.

I will help guide you through the necessary steps and provide you with the answers and direction you need. Do not hesitate.

Illinois has an “Animal Control Act” law. This law provides that the owner, harborer, or keeper of any animal is liable for injuries to people.

Although the Animal Control Act law uses the word “owner”, the term is defined as “any person having a right of property in an animal, or who keeps or harbors an animal, or who has it in his care, or acts as its custodian, or who knowingly permits a dog to remain on any premises occupied by him or her.” (510 ILCS 5/2.16)

A dog bite victim can bring a claim against a dog owner based upon the Animal Control Act. Additionally, a victim can bring a claim on the ground of negligence.

We Fight For You

Our respected law firm has successfully resolved several dog bite cases, including those involving seriously injured children.

We know what to look for in evaluating and building your specific case, focusing on:

-Understanding the circumstances surrounding the dog bite or animal attack

-Uncovering any previously reported incidents of the animal attacking another person

-Gathering photographic or video evidence that shows negligence in controlling the animal

-Fully documenting your injuries as soon as possible after the attack

-Finding neighbors or other witnesses willing to discuss a problem animal or the owner’s negligence in controlling it

Even if the dog has no history of violence, an unprovoked attack may still provide a solid case for legal action. Phil’s extensive experience in proving negligence and negotiating with insurance companies can be an excellent asset for you.

As in other personal injury cases, the time immediately following a dog bite or animal attack may be critical. We urge you to act quickly so valuable evidence is not removed or covered up before an investigation can take place. You risk nothing when you contact us for a free consultation — and we are well qualified to help you make the best possible decisions about moving forward with a lawsuit.

"There are all kinds of reasons why you might need a lawyer at some point(s) in your life. Whatever the reason, what you want is someone that understands you, advises you properly (hey, our emotions can override our intellect), works hard on your behalf and is willing to go the distance. Phil Berenz is just this kind of lawyer. I had a situation where I needed the assistance of a lawyer and fortunately he was recommended to me. Phil can walk that delicate line of completely understanding --feeling your pain--to giving you the best advice based on his experience. Some lawyers may tell you what you want to hear to run up your fees. Not Phil.
He's a top-notch negotiator and has the patience to build relationships with the opposing side to gain the best benefit for the client. He is very skillful at understanding the psyche of the other parties.
I could go on and on, but basically what I want to say -- if you need a lawyer, call Phil. If he doesn't have the expertise that you require, he'll recommend you to someone that does and you can be sure they will be of a high calibre too."
