Karelia Michelle Montenegro, a child care worker at Oak Park Montessori, was charged with aggravated battery of a child this week. Karelia Michelle Montenegro was caught on surveillance video force feeding an 8-month-old boy, shoving a spoon in the baby boy’s mouth repeatedly and causing a tear in the baby boy’s esophagus.

The 8-month-old boy became lethargic and developed swelling in the left side of his neck after Karelia Michelle Montenegro force fed him.

The boy’s parents were notified of the swollen neck and the boy’s parents took him to West Suburban Medical Hospital in Oak Park. The boy was then taken by ambulance to Lurie Children’s Hospital.

Doctors diagnosed the boy with esophageal rupture, inflammation of the chest tissue, sepsis and septic shock and determined the injuries were caused by trauma.

Karelia Michelle Montenegro is currently being held in lieu of $50,000 bond.
